Proteoform Thursday: Juan Vizcaíno presents “The Implementation of Open Science Practices Can Enable A Faster Development Of Top-Down Proteomics”

Open data and science practices, including e.g. the FAIR data principles, are widely implemented in the life sciences. Although this process started years later in proteomics than for other more established omics approaches, their implementation in the field have enabled spectacular advances in analytical and computational data workflows, including the integration of large amounts of proteomics data in bioinformatics data resources. In the case of top-down proteomics and proteoform-centric data, the implementation of open science practices has been more limited due to different reasons, and there is the need for some key new developments. In my view, one of the main priorities of the TDP field should be to fully endorse and implement them to enable new approaches that would help to develop the field faster. In my talk, I will describe the current state-state-of-the-art in the proteomics field as a whole, and then describe some ideas in this context for TDP and proteoform data.
